Our Range Gains Two More Grains

Have a gander at a dynamic duo of new grain whiskies which we’ve just bottled!

Look, we’ve bottled a pair of new grain whiskies! What a perfect situation for those among us that love delicious grain whiskies as well as for those among us that are writing a blog post about these two whiskies and looking for a theme to run through it. 

Here’s our very first batch of Port Dundas - a 25 year old single grain from a distillery that is sadly no more. However, that’s not going to stop us bottling their whisky, no siree! The label shows a variety of grains which have been used in the production of single grain, including a couple of our favourites like Blue Corn (makes a great tortilla chip when it’s not being used in whisky) and Triticale (a close relative to Quadrotriticale - a top treat for tribbles).

We’ve also got our second batch of Girvan single grain Scotch whisky, aged for 52 years. Friar John looks somewhat wary of the rotovap being installed, but then again, he’s never seen one of them before and just had it plonked down in front of him by a time-traveller! It’s understandable to be a touch confused about the entire situation. Nevertheless, we’re sure he’s excited at the prospect of continuing to produce spirit from 1495 to 2016 to produce just as much spirit as the Girvan distillery does on any day of the week.

Liquid Gold Awards from the Whisky Bible

As well as a huge win for our Macallan, 7 (seven!) more Boutique-y whiskies have received Liquid Gold Awards for scores of 94 Points or higher in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2017!

Following on from yesterday's announcement that our Macallan 25 Year Old was named Scotch Single Malt of the Year (Single Cask), we once again find ourselves bursting with pride as Jim Murray has considered another seven of our whiskies to be "Liquid Gold".

Macallan 25 Year Old - 97 Points Scotch Single Malt of the Year (Single Cask)

"Am I nosing the first Macallan 25 I tasted over 30 years ago...? ...So good I could weep."

Lagavulin 10 Year Old - 96.5 Points

"a near perfect Islay nose... gorgeous weight... a great whisky from a great distillery plucked at just the right age (indeed, being surprisingly youthful) and in all its naked beauty. Sublime."

Paul John Batch 1 - 95 Points

"the smoke, through serious maturation, has now moved into a stunning structured herbal nature with lavender and mint... such a brilliant mouth feel... a sublime peated malt from India."

Glenburgie Batch 2 - 94.5 Points

"marries a winning freshness with deeper, oak-stoked anchor. Salty, malty and teasing... sublime delivery... pretty much faultless, top grade blending malt: quite irresistible!"

Our Macallan 25 Year Old has been named Single Cask Scotch of the Year in Jim Murray's 2017 Whisky Bible!

The big winners in Jim Murray's annual Whisky Bible have been revealed today and we're bursting with excitement as our fifth batch of Macallan single malt has been named Scotch Single Malt of the Year (Single Cask)! A tremendous 25 Year Old whisky recognised as Jim Murray's celebrates 25 years as a full-time whisky writer.
