Imperial’s gentle, floral, American cream soda style is well loved amongst whisky aficionados. While it has not reached the cult status of Brora or Port Ellen, its reputation continues to grow. Sadly, there isn’t much stock left.

This single ex-Bourbon barrel was laid down in March 1998, the year the distillery was mothballed for the last time.

Its chequered history meant that it never had a chance to become established as a single malt brand. Too late for the very earliest wave, by the time the category was becoming popular in the 1970s it was already committed to supplying fillings. When the single malt market came of age in the early 1990s, Imperial was closed.

NOSE

Initial bright and zesty notes of citrus, turns waxy. Sweet vanilla, a delicate honey sweetness, and a light oak influence, with hints of gentle spice. Lovely!

TASTE

A full-bodied and creamy texture.Hints of dried tropical fruit; papaya, pineapple and mango. Its sweetness evolves into rich toffee and caramel flavours with a touch of oak spices, adding complexity.

ABOUT THE LABEL

Simulation Theory - the simulation hypothesis proposes that all of our existence is a simulated reality, such as a computer simulation.

The Imperial distillery was demolished in 2013 to make way for the new Dalmunach distillery. Some of the materials from the original distillery were used in the new distillery. Or perhaps Imperial never actually existed?
