The Laphroaig distillery was established in 1815 and remained in the hands of the founding family until 1954
Laphroaig is a substantial distillery with seven stills and a capacity of over 3 million litres per annum and is the largest of the Kildalton trio.
Laphroaig continues to operate its own floor maltings, which provides 20% of its total malt requirements. This in-house malt is produced to a phenol specification of 40-60 ppm, whereas the malt sourced externally from Port Ellen or the mainland typically ranges between 35-45 ppm.
A smoldering smokey single cask of Laphroaig from a refill ex-Bourbon Barrel
We’re expecting to get around 345 bottles at Natural Cask Strength, 62.4% abv.
NOSE
Delicate hints of strawberry jam, cigars, walnuts, earth, teppanyaki sauce, creosote, licorice, and a touch of ointments and cough syrups.
TASTE
Rich and creamy featuring chestnut purée, complemented by exquisite salted citrons and pink grapefruits, a hint of pepper, and perhaps a touch of jasmine tea.
ABOUT THE LABEL
Our original 'Back to the Future' label featured a whisky blog team alongside Bessie Williamson riding a sheil. In this evolution, we’ve placed Bessie front and center to honor her pivotal role in shaping the distillery.
Look for the label changes from the previous release: Instead of checking her watch, she’s pressing a Star Trek-esque logo on her chest. Beam Me Up, Bessie!
