Designed as the first fully organic modern distillery in Scotland powered by 100% renewable energy, Nc’nean is one of the new wave of Scottish farm distilleries.
It’s about as far away from civilisation as you can get in Scotland, out on the Morvern Peninsula in the Western Highlands. All of their barley is sourced from just 10 organic farms in Scotland.
Slow mashes, long fermentations, horizontal lyne arms, and shell and tube condensers, with a high, narrow spirit cut produce a light, fruity and estery spirit.
This release is from a first fill bourbon barrel. The outturn of this release: Just 321 bottles at 59.8% abv
Nose
Vanilla ice cream, zesty limes and a herbal, leafy spring hedgerow note with some freshly cut green oak.
Palate
Creamy vanilla, biscuits, and that zesty citrus note transfers from nose to palate.. Cardamom leads the spicy finish.
ABOUT THE LABEL
Our label is a play on ‘The Birth of Venus.’ Instead of Venus on the shell, we have founder Annabel Thomas riding a white swan. That’s the Drimmin peninsular behind her, and the distillery employees are the cherubs around her.
Nc’nean is an abbreviation of Neachneohain, the Gaelic goddess of spirits.
The white swan is a respectful nod to the late Dr. Jim Swan who was instrumental in the distillery design, house style, and maturation.
